Delphi
From ProWiki - Demo and Test Wiki
Delphi is a rapid application development (RAD) environment and programming language based on Object Pascal, developed by Borland (now Embarcadero Technologies). It has been widely used since its introduction in 1995 for building Windows desktop applications.
Key Characteristics
- Object Pascal language with strong typing
- Visual component library (VCL) for rapid Windows UI development
- Native compilation to fast, standalone executables
- Built-in database connectivity tools
- FireMonkey framework for cross-platform (Windows, macOS, iOS, Android)
- Long backward compatibility enabling decades-old codebases to remain in use
Enterprise Use
Delphi has a significant installed base in enterprise environments, particularly in banking, healthcare, logistics, and manufacturing sectors in Europe and Latin America. TeamViewer is one of the most widely known enterprise products built with Delphi. Many business applications built in the late 1990s and 2000s remain in production. Embarcadero continues to develop Delphi, and organizations maintain large Delphi codebases due to stability, performance, and the cost of rewriting.
